About the Project:

I was commissioned to make a prototype of a flapper-style wig for potential inclusion in a new “Modern Woman” gallery at The National Museum of Singapore, opening in early 2027. The museum were experimenting with the idea of creating some 1920s and 30s-style hairstyles to use on mannequins.

Made from black crinoline, this wig was made to emulate the look of the “bob” style, which became a symbol of independence and modernity for women during that era. The hairstyle was made with soft waves, to look like finger waves that were a popular style from the 1920s. Such hairstyles often required styling tools like Marcel wave clips to achieve the distinct, structured look.

About:

  • The wig was made to fix onto a 3D printed mannequin head
  • It was constructed onto a frame made of Rigilene boning with a base of netting.
